StockholmSubwaystoRy #87 – Hässelby strand

Stockholm Subway with stoRy touRs

Hello everyone! The first weekend of February does not come only with a fresh layer of snow over Stockholm, but also with a new entry in our Stockholm Subway stoRy. This time, we are taking you all the way to the western part of the city to see Hässelby strand.

Today’s station is located in Hässelby-Vällingby borough and it represents the end station for the T19 green line in the subway system of the Swedish capital. Eastbound is followed by Hässelby gård

Hässelby strand was opened in November 1958 and a proper celebration was organized for the opening day when more than 300 people were invited to experience the subway trip all the way to west Stockholm.

Nowadays a large open-air platform welcomes you when you get out of the only ticket hall of the station. The hall went through various renovation phases during the last years. But starting with 2000 Christian Partos’ mosaics decorate different parts of this space.

It’s not one of the most crowded stations of the city with only about 4.500 people passing by here on a regular day, basically serving the residential suburbs with a direct connection to the central parts of the city. Why shall you pay it a visit? Because until you’ll be reaching it, you’ll get to see different angles of Stockholm, crossing more than half of the city from its central part.
